Harbinger has unveiled a new series hybrid EV designed for diverse fleet applications. The Harbinger series hybrid EV includes an electric drivetrain paired with a gas-powered range extender that recharges the battery, offering up to 500 miles of range between charges.
The model is now open for pre-orders, with commercial deliveries slated for 2026.
“Medium-duty vehicles serve an incredibly diverse range of applications, just like the fleets and operators that rely on them, ” said John Harris, Co-founder and CEO, Harbinger. “There are some fleets whose needs simply can’t be met with a purely electric vehicle. We recognize that. Our hybrid is designed for use cases and routes that go beyond what an all-electric system typically supports. The series hybrid delivers the benefits of an electric drivetrain. Along with the added confidence of a range extender when needed.”
High-Performance Platform
The Harbinger series hybrid EV uses a plug-in hybrid platform featuring a low-emissions 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine. A close-coupled 800V generator charges a 140 or 175 kWh battery system, selected by the customer. The 50-gallon fuel tank powers the generator, extending the vehicle’s range significantly, Harbinger said.
The electric powertrain produces up to 1,140 lb-ft of torque and 440 horsepower. Harbinger’s 800-volt architecture also allows rapid charging — up to 80% in one hour at DC Fast Charging stations.
Harbinger Series Hybrid EV Chassis Built in California
Harbinger tailored its new platform, a stripped chassis, for medium-duty vehicles like delivery vans, box trucks, RVs, and emergency response units. It incorporates all critical systems: drivetrain, high-voltage battery, brakes, steering, and the range extender.
The company designs and assembles all components in-house at its Garden Grove, California facility. After assembly, the company ships chassis units to dealers or directly to customers for body upfitting with third-party partners.
Battery Partnership and Customer Programs
Panasonic Energy will supply lithium-ion battery cells for the Harbinger series hybrid EV. Initially sourced from Japan, battery supply will shift to Panasonic’s De Soto, Kansas facility in the future for localized production.
Harbinger’s RV partnership with THOR Industries demonstrates how the hybrid chassis meets recreational needs, it said. THOR’s brands, including Airstream and Jayco, plan to offer RVs with 500-mile range based on the Harbinger platform.
Harbinger also introduced its IRA Risk-Free Guarantee. This program ensures customers still benefit from the Inflation Reduction Act 45W Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit. Even if federal policy changes.
