Clarios has unveiled plans to invest up to $1 billion in a U.S.-based critical minerals processing and recovery plant. The move, part of the broader Clarios critical minerals investment strategy, is designed to enhance domestic access to antimony and other vital elements used in defense and battery production.
Clarios is currently evaluating Indiana, Texas, and Utah as possible locations for the new facility.
Boosting National Security Through Critical Minerals
Critical minerals like antimony play a key role in military technologies, including night vision goggles, precision optics, and ammunition. However, the United States remains heavily reliant on foreign sources for these materials. The planned Clarios facility seeks to reverse that trend by processing minerals from recycled materials within the U.S.
This effort aligns with federal executive orders that call for reduced foreign dependence and improved national supply chain resilience. The Clarios critical minerals investment directly supports these national goals, it said.
Clarios Critical Minerals Investment: A Cornerstone of Clarios’ $6 Billion Strategy
The critical minerals plant is part of Clarios’ broader $6 billion American energy manufacturing plan. Of that total, up to $1.9 billion is earmarked for advancing mineral recovery efforts. The proposed facility will focus on sustainable methods to extract antimony and other elements from recycled batteries and industrial materials.
Positioning for the Future of Energy and Defense
Clarios expects the new site to evolve into a broader hub for battery manufacturing and advanced technology development. By refining and recycling essential materials domestically, the company will help preserve critical resources for national defense and energy infrastructure.
“We’re excited to announce the next step in our strategy to increase our investment in the United States,” said Mark Wallace, CEO of Clarios. “This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability and building resilient supply chains. We’re not only strengthening the domestic supply of critical minerals. We’re also supporting national security and a more sustainable future.”
