Betterfrost, a technology firm known for its defrost solutions, partnered with Denso in a project supported by nearly $1.5 million in funding, combining government grants and industry contributions. This collaboration aims to develop a low-energy defrost and defog system for electric vehicles (EVs), expected to be 20 times more energy-efficient than current models.
Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli, highlighted the province’s significant role in the auto industry’s future, noting the project as evidence of Ontario’s leadership in next-generation automotive technologies.
The initiative seeks to enhance EVs by extending their range in cold weather and reducing drivers’ range anxiety. The collaboration leverages Denso’s experience in automotive technology and Betterfrost’s expertise in energy efficiency.
Denso, with a long history in Canada, including operations in Guelph and collaborations with Canadian research institutions, said it sees this partnership as an extension of its commitment to sustainable automotive solutions.
Both companies said their partnership marks a significant step toward improving EV efficiency through innovative defrosting and defogging technology, setting new benchmarks for the industry and enhancing the appeal of electric vehicles in colder climates.
