Flux, a start-up promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) to power homes, said it has successfully connected its first customer to its vehicle-to-home (V2H) platform. This platform uses the battery in the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning to power a home in Portland, OR, according to Flux. Flux said it employs a two-way charger and software platform to charge the EV during off-peak hours and discharge it during peak hours.
Flux said it offers two subscription options – one where the customer pays for the two-way charger, and another where Flux covers the cost. The EV owner and Flux then share the savings on the electricity bill. Future software upgrades will enable the EV to provide services to local utilities through Flux’s V2G platform, Flux said. Flux estimates that customers could save and earn a total of $12,000 annually, depending on electricity usage and local energy market conditions. Additionally, Flux customers will be able to power their homes with their EVs during power outages.
The company said it has opened pre-orders on its website, with expected deliveries in select markets in 2025. Available vehicles include models from Ford, GM, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Rivian, Volkswagen, and Tesla.
