Panasonic Energy and Lucid Group announced that the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring will use Panasonic batteries to power its EPA-estimated 450-mile range. Panasonic said the battery pack is 40% smaller than its competitors while maintaining high efficiency and performance.
Lucid Gravity: A High-Performance Electric SUV
Lucid designed the Gravity SUV to deliver both spaciousness and efficiency. The vehicle features:
- Up to 120 cubic feet of cargo space;
- Seating for seven adults;
- 828 horsepower;
- 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds;
- Panasonic batteries for an EPA-rated 450-mile range.
Panasonic’s 2170 Battery Technology
Panasonic Energy said it developed 2170 cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells to power Lucid Gravity’s performance and efficiency. With an energy density exceeding 800Wh/L, these cells enable fast charging, extended lifespan, and enhanced safety.
By December 2023, Panasonic Energy had supplied 15 billion lithium-ion EV batteries globally, powering approximately 3 million EVs. Despite this output, no vehicle recalls have occurred due to battery issues, Panasonic said.
Lucid Gravity Panasonic Batteries Partnership
Lucid first incorporated Panasonic batteries into the Lucid Air Pure, leading to their integration into Lucid Gravity models. The companies continue expanding their collaboration, with Panasonic manufacturing Gravity’s 2170 cells in Japan and planning future production in Kansas.
