Chevrolet has introduced the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck at the Mint 400 off-road race. The Hall Racing team will field the electric truck, with Chad Hall behind the wheel in the Open Production EV class.
EV Off-Road Racing
“There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. “The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98% GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude.”
Chevrolet said it designed the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck using the same ZR2 formula as the Colorado ZR2 and Silverado ZR2, featuring:
- Lifted front and rear suspension with off-road tuning;
- Multimatic damper technology;
- Locking differentials;
- Underbody skid protection.
High-Performance Engineering for Extreme Conditions
Chevrolet said its engineers developed the off-road Silverado EV ZR2 race truck in just five months. It used approximately 98% GM production parts. The truck features prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve continuously adaptive dampers, providing more than 13 inches of front and rear wheel travel for extreme off-road conditions.
Fitted with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, the truck also boasts a tri-motor electric propulsion system. This setup delivers 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, the manufacturer said.
Silverado EV ZR2 Testing and Performance Insights
Chevrolet said its engineers will work closely with Chad Hall Racing to analyze the truck’s performance, durability, and capability. They plan to apply key insights to future production vehicles, performance parts, and accessories. Right now, Chevrolet offers more than 44 off-road performance parts and accessories for production trucks.
“Working with the Chevy engineers is always a good day at the office,” said Chad Hall, primary driver and owner of Hall Racing race team lead. “What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy. An off-road race like The Mint 400 is equivalent to a lifetime of vehicle wear and tear.”
Hall Racing began competing in a stock production class with a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in 2017. Since then, the team has completed 53 of 54 races.
Silverado EV ZR2 Race Truck Paves the Way for the 2026 Trail Boss
The debut of the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck aligns with the upcoming release of the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss, Chevrolet’s first off-road-focused EV variant. The Trail Boss features a factory-installed lift, 18-inch wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires, and red tow hooks. A new Terrain Mode enhances maneuverability in tight spaces, Chevrolet said.
Chevrolet said it will share more details about the Silverado EV Trail Boss soon.
