General Motors (GM) has partnered with Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) to expand GM Energy bidirectional charging through PG&E’s Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) pilot program. This initiative offers Northern and Central California customers incentives to adopt GM Energy’s home energy solutions.
GM Energy and PG&E Advance Bidirectional Charging
GM Energy said it is working with utilities like PG&E to integrate bidirectional EV charging technology into homes. This system allows compatible GM EVs to power homes during outages and balance energy demand to support grid stability. The program aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels while making EV ownership more cost-effective, GM said.
Customers participating in the PG&E Vehicle-to-Everything pilot can receive up to $4,500 in incentives for purchasing qualifying GM Energy home products. That includes the GM Energy V2H Bundle and Home System. PG&E may also provide additional incentives for customers who participate in planned backup power events. As well as those who remain enrolled through the program’s duration.
GM Energy Sees Bidirectional Charging as the Future of Home Energy
“This program with PG&E represents a great opportunity,” said GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer. “For utilities, legislators, customers and others, this pilot is an opportunity to see the full value of our V2H technology. This can be a tool that helps overall grid resiliency and showcases the unique advantages of EVs.”
PG&E on EV and Grid Integration
“PG&E is leading the way to enable vehicle-grid-integration technology. Tis creates a path for EVs to power customer homes, ultimately benefiting all Californians,” said Mike Delaney, VP utility partnerships and innovation, PG&E.
Which GM EVs Qualify for the Program?
At launch, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq EV, GMC Sierra EV, and 2025 Cadillac Lyriq EV qualify for participation. GM expects to add all 2025 model-year EVs to the program soon.
