The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) and Electrada released a new report titled “Insights from Industry Leaders: Fleet Perspectives on Charging-as-a-Service.” The report delivers fleet electrification insights, drawn from a survey of 175 fleet managers, suppliers, and consultants.
The survey focused on identifying major challenges fleets face when transitioning to EVs. It also explored how they overcome those challenges. Including what motivates adoption, and how fleets define success in battery electric vehicle (BEV) programs.
Key Barriers Drive Need for Charging-as-a-Service
Many fleets cited working with utilities as one of the biggest hurdles in EV adoption. Respondents also identified managing charging infrastructure as a key reason to work with a Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) provider.
“Electrada is thrilled to collaborate with NACFE on this new white paper that brings practical intelligence to fleet operators transitioning to EVs,” said Kevin Kushman, CEO of Electrada. “We’re helping to simplify and accelerate the path to fleet electrification at scale.”
Fleet Electrification Insights Show Focus on Operations
Fleets measure the success of electrification by operational effectiveness. About 38% of respondents used a CaaS or managed charging provider. Meanwhile, 33% managed electrification without outside help.
“NACFE is always looking for opportunities to gain and share insights about the industry. With the continued growth of fleet electrification, fleets are looking for tools and strategies to make implementation as easy as possible,” said Rachel Ellenberger, industry engagement manager for NACFE. “We’re excited to partner with Electrada on this collaboration report. We knew we would gather great information together and could share it with an even wider audience.”
“The findings from this survey are consistent with what we learned in Run on Less – Electric DEPOT,” said Mike Roeth, NACFE’s executive director. “To successfully electrify, fleets need an understanding of the entire ecosystem, which includes utilities and charging equipment. Unfamiliarity with these entities can be a barrier to electrification. CaaS may be one way to eliminate that barrier.”
The fleet electrification insights collected by NACFE and Electrada aim to help fleets scale adoption efficiently and overcome persistent operational challenges, the companies said.
