Cimcorp has entered the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry with a new EV battery material handling system. The solution improves material flow across giga factories and boosts production efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety.
“Demand for batteries is surging to support the EV revolution, putting immense pressure on manufacturers to increase output while maintaining product quality and safety standards,” Veli-Matti Hakala, CEO, Cimcorp. “With decades of experience in the tire manufacturing and warehousing industries. Cimcorp is ready to apply our unparalleled expertise and proven technologies to address the unique challenges of giga factory operations.”
Integrated Technologies Power EV Battery Material Handling
Cimcorp’s EV battery material handling system unites technologies from Cimcorp, Muratec, and AGVE—members of the Murata Machinery Ltd. network. The solution combines gantry robots, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and conveyor systems. These technologies manage materials through key battery production phases. Including slurry raw materials, electrode manufacturing, cell assembly, formation and inspection, warehousing, and shipping.
Cimcorp’s warehouse control system oversees all functions to ensure speed, accuracy, traceability, and overall efficiency.
Automated Gantry System Offers Safety and Scalability
Cimcorp’s solution excels in the critical formation and aging phase. Automated room-temperature and high-temperature warehouses allow dense storage for aging cells. Overhead gantry robots move batteries through aging, charging, formation, and testing cycles with high efficiency.
Key benefits include:
- High throughput and quality: Automation reduces errors and maximizes output.
- Optimized layout: Gantry robots operate above floor level, saving space for machinery and staff.
- Flexible recipe management: The system adapts to new process flows without conveyor changes.
- Scalability: Modular systems expand easily with production growth.
- Safety: Automation reduces human contact with hazardous materials. Floor-level access supports emergency intervention.
- Reliability: Proven technology ensures consistent performance and minimal downtime.
