Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) introduced the all-new 2026 Subaru Solterra EV at the 2025 New York International Auto Show. First launched in 2023, the updated Solterra all-electric SUV improves driving performance, efficiency, styling, and cabin comfort, Subaru said. The 2026 Solterra includes Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Subaru EyeSight driver-assistance technologies. Subaru made a 14-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility standard.
2026 Subaru Solterra EV All-Electric Platform and AWD Enhancements
Subaru equipped the 2026 Subaru Solterra EV with a 77.0-kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers an estimated range of about 450 kilometers (approx. 280 miles)—a 25% increase from the previous model. The new battery preconditioning system keeps charging temperatures optimal, especially in cold weather. Drivers can activate this system or allow it to run when navigating to a charging station.
The all-wheel-drive system now uses independent front and rear motor outputs. Subaru said it improved performance by managing both motors through an upgraded controller. This enables more flexible power distribution in various conditions.
The 2026 Solterra delivers 338 horsepower, a 57% power boost over the 2024 model. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (approx. 60 MPH) in under 5 seconds.
Fast Charging and Tesla Supercharger Access
The Solterra’s lithium-ion battery charges from 10% to 80% in around 35 minutes using DC fast charging at 150 kW. Subaru added NACS charging ports so Solterra EV drivers can use over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. At home, the vehicle supports both Level 1 and Level 2 charging with an improved 11kW onboard charger.
All-Terrain Confidence in a Pure EV SUV
With Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, the 2026 Subaru Solterra EV strengthens its off-road performance. The SUV features X-MODE Dual-Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings. Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control also support traction in slippery conditions. It offers 210 mm of ground clearance—best in class among small electric SUVs.
Suspension and electric power steering refinements improve handling and responsiveness. Subaru’s updated AWD control predicts front and rear tire load, adjusts power, and tunes the suspension to reduce roll and sway.
Subaru will announce pricing and full specifications for the 2026 Subaru Solterra EV before it goes on sale later this year.
