Renault announced it electrified its bestselling Trafic van with the new Trafic Van E-Tech Electric. The new Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric completes Renault’s range of all-electric commercial vehicles, the company said.
Inheriting the attributes that have made Trafic an icon for over 40 years, the electric Trafic Van provides high performance and ample customization choices. It is available in two lengths and two heights with load space from 5.8 to 8.9 cubic meters (approx. 314 cubic feet), and the electric motor produces 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque for smooth, effortless driving.
With a 52 kWh battery, Renault said the Trafic Van E-Tech Electric can travel up to 297 km (approx. 184 miles) on a charge. Fast-charging capability will be available to add 50 km (approx. 31 miles) of range in under 25 minutes. Customers also get an 8-year/160,000 km (approx. 99,419 miles) battery warranty.
Onboard services accessible through the MyRenault app will allow drivers to schedule charging, preheat the cabin, locate charging points and check the remaining range, the company said. An Eco mode and long-range version help maximize battery efficiency.
Renault’s plant in Sandouville, France, currently produces the Trafic E-Tech Electric. The facility was overhauled in 2010 with a €230 million (approx. $245,329,500) investment to enable 600 possible LCV configurations. About 75% of Trafics made there are exported.
The electric motor and chargers come from Renault’s Cléon, Normandy plant, battery assembly takes place in Flins, France and Gretz-Armainvilliers handles electrification.
