Volvo Trucks North America says it has deployed more than 570 Class 8 battery-electric trucks since commercial orders began in December 2020, collectively logging over 8.5 million miles with over 70 customers. Volvo said it supports its customers through a network of certified electric vehicle (EV) dealerships across North America. Globally, Volvo has more than 4,300 electric trucks in commercial operations in 48 countries.
Volvo Trucks North America said it is working towards a comprehensive electromobility ecosystem, with 64 dealer locations across 28 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces. O’Connor Motor Company recently became the first dealership in Maine to become a certified EV dealer.
“We recognized early on that the transition to battery-electric vehicles required more than just the trucks themselves, that it had to be a total ecosystem of support on this ground-breaking technology,” Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America, said. “We take an extensive consultative approach with our customers and a major step of that was to be the first OEM to create a Certified EV Dealer network.”
Volvo Trucks recognized the following dealer locations for completing their EV certification process:
- TEC Equipment – Dixon (Dixon, CA);
- Bruckner’s Truck & Equipment (Dallas, TX);
- Tri-State Truck & Equipment (Billings, MT);
- O’Connor Motor Company (Portland, ME);
- Volvo Lac St-Jean (Saint-Prime, QC).
Several dealership groups, including TEC Equipment and Bruckner’s Truck & Equipment, have completed the certification process at multiple locations. Volvo Trucks said it aims to build a coast-to-coast dealer support network, with 34 additional dealer locations currently in the certification process.
Volvo Trucks has also developed a support system with digital tools for route planning and total cost of ownership analysis, as well as strategic partnerships to enhance charging infrastructure, the company said.
Earlier this year, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Solutions launched the Volvo on Demand program, allowing fleets to use a Volvo VNR Electric truck for as little as 12 months. This program helps fleets experience the trucks before making a purchase or long-term leasing decision, Volvo Trucks said.
Volvo Financial Solutions said it has introduced new financing options that cover the installation of charging infrastructure and combine service and maintenance plans into single monthly payments.
