ENC, a California-based bus manufacturer, has partnered with InductEV to expand its lineup of battery-electric buses. This collaboration introduces wireless EV bus charging technology, which addresses range limitations and offers economic advantages over wired or pantograph systems. Transit agencies across North America benefit as they continue facing supply chain disruptions and performance challenges.
ENC Deploys Wireless Charging on Electric Buses
ENC will offer wireless EV bus charging by integrating InductEV’s high-power inductive hardware into its electric buses. Municipal transit fleets in Washington State, California, Oregon, Indianapolis, and Martha’s Vineyard already use this technology in on-route and hybrid depot applications.
Axess EVO-BE Buses Gain New Capabilities
ENC’s Axess EVO-BE platform, which includes battery-electric, hybrid, diesel, and CNG-powered buses, now features hands-free wireless charging. Available in 32-, 35-, and 40-foot models, the stainless-steel chassis buses offer flexible deployment for agencies of all sizes.
“We’ve been following InductEV’s municipal transit deployments across the U.S. We look forward to adding its high-power wireless charging solution to meet the varied needs of our customers,” added Dan Trujillo, ENC’s Vice President of Sales. “InductEV’s system creates stability, flexibility, and ease of use. Their proven deployments in transit fleets, with over 3 million miles driven and over 3 GWh of power delivered wirelessly, make them a reliable provider for our new product line.”
How InductEV’s Wireless EV Bus Charging System Works
InductEV’s wireless system uses an in-ground pad that activates when aligned with an underbody receiver. It delivers up to 450 kW of power, enhancing safety and reducing maintenance needs, it said. The system enables charging across all vehicle types, including low-floor buses and double-deckers, while maximizing uptime and reducing infrastructure footprint.
ENC Expands Wireless EV Bus Charging in Canada
ENC selected Toronto-based City View Specialty Vehicles as its exclusive distributor and service provider across Canada.
“City View is proud to serve as the exclusive distributor of ENC’s next-gen battery-electric buses throughout Canada,” said company President Joseph D’Urso. “We look forward to working alongside the teams at ENC and InductEV, and ensuring each vehicle meets buy Canadian content.”
ENC said it ensures that all buses meet or exceed major regulatory standards. That includes FMVSS, CMVSS, DOT, EPA, ADA, and NHTSA. Each vehicle also passes FTA/Altoona durability testing, supporting long-term, sustainable transit operations.
