Ballard Power Systems signed a multi-year supply agreement with Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles (MCV). The deal is to deliver 50 fuel cell bus engines totaling approximately 5 MW. Ballard said the deal strengthens its role in hydrogen-powered transportation and supports zero-emission public transit in the European Union.
50 Fuel Cell Bus Engines for MCV Projects
Under this agreement, Ballard will supply 50 FCmove-HD+ engines, with MCV placing an initial order of 35 units. Since partnering in 2022, Ballard said it has assisted MCV with fuel cell engine integration, leading to its first order in 2023. Deliveries for this latest agreement will take place between 2025 and 2026.
Fuel Cell Bus Market Growth Continues
“We are delighted with this order and the continued engagement with MCV,” said Oben Uluc, Vice President, Europe Sales & Marketing at Ballard. “In 2024 we took in 1,600 bus engines orders across seven OEMs, and this agreement continues the momentum into 2025. As the fuel cell bus market continues to mature, we look forward to the use of Ballard fuel cell engines to decarbonize public transit across the globe.”
Reliable and Efficient Hydrogen-Powered Solutions
Ballard’s fuel cell engines now power over 1,800 buses worldwide, accumulating more than 200 million operational miles. These engines achieve a 99% availability rate with zero reported safety incidents, Ballard said.
