Bendix continues to advance commercial vehicle sustainability by achieving milestones in renewable energy use, emissions cuts, and waste diversion. The company said it remains committed to environmental responsibility through both employee action and corporate initiatives.
“Each day, someone at Bendix is taking a meaningful step toward a more sustainable future,” said Maria Gutierrez, Bendix senior director of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). “We’re proud to see this commitment woven into the fabric of our culture.”
As a member of Knorr-Bremse, Bendix said it integrates sustainability into its products. The company aligns its ESG efforts with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals—specifically SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Cutting Emissions to Support Commercial Vehicle Sustainability
Bendix is working to cut greenhouse gas emissions as part of Knorr-Bremse’s Climate Strategy 2030. The company targets a 75% reduction in scope 1 and market-based scope 2 emissions from 2018 levels by 2030. Its strategy includes boosting energy efficiency, switching to cleaner fuels, and scaling up renewable energy.
From 2020 to 2024, Bendix said it saved over 17.6 million kilowatt-hours of energy. Its solar power investments continue to deliver cost savings and reduce emissions across North America. In 2024, a solar array in Huntington, Indiana, generated 1.5 million kilowatt-hours—32% of Plant 1’s electricity needs.
The State of Coahuila honored Bendix’s Acuña campus with the Industria Verde (Green Industry) certification, recognizing leadership in energy efficiency and resource management.
Reducing Waste to Strengthen Environmental Impact of Commercial Vehicle Sustainability
In 2024, Bendix diverted more than 19,000 tons of waste from landfills. The company maintained a 99% diversion rate across its operations. Eight of its manufacturing sites now hold Zero Waste to Landfill certification.
Luis Quiñones, Bendix environmental and sustainability engineer, emphasized waste prevention at the source. The company prioritizes reclamation, recycling, composting, and waste-to-energy strategies.
Bendix also updated its food service policies to cut waste, eliminating plastic bottles and Styrofoam. It uses food waste digesters to avoid sending food scraps to landfills.
Employees Drive Sustainability with Green Teams
Green Teams within Bendix lead employee efforts to reduce environmental impact. They organize Earth Day events, beach cleanups, and recycling campaigns. At its Avon, OH headquarters, a Green Team runs a community garden that promotes biodiversity and supplies fresh produce.
Supporting EVs and Earning National Recognition
Bendix expanded EV charging stations at its Avon facility to support clean mobility. In 2024, employees avoided over 41,000 pounds of CO2 emissions by charging at work.
Federal agencies continue to recognize Bendix for commercial vehicle sustainability. The company earned U.S. DOE sustainability awards for three straight years. In 2024, it received a Better Climate Challenge Goal Achiever designation.
