L-Charge, a provider of sustainable off-grid EV charging technology, partnered with ride-hail platform Alto to advance sustainable urban mobility. By using L-Charge’s Charge-as-a-Service (CaaS) model, Alto expands its EV fleet in Dallas and Los Angeles without upfront hardware costs or reliance on existing utility infrastructure.
Accelerating Eco-Friendly Mobility with Sustainable Off-Grid EV Charging
L-Charge said it developed its off-grid EV charging technology to solve the challenges of traditional grid infrastructure in electrifying mobility, especially in cities. By utilizing clean fuels such as natural gas, renewable natural gas (RNG), and hydrogen, L-Charge delivers a turnkey solution for sustainable off-grid EV charging.
With over 20 years of research and development in electricity generation, L-Charge said it provides comprehensive charging services that eliminate the need for initial infrastructure investment. Its charging stations deploy immediately, bypassing the delays of construction or grid connectivity.
Deployable Turn-Key Off-Grid Charging Stations
L-Charge said it delivers its EV charging stations quickly and efficiently.
“No matter how remote the location, as long as a customer has access to an 8.5-foot by 30-foot space to park a trailer, they can take advantage of an L-Charge EV charging station in a matter of hours,” said Dmitry Lashin, CEO of L-Charge. “Our operatives roll up with a trailer carrying a battery pack and a natural gas-powered generator. We can deliver our trailer with a virtual pipeline, or we can hook it up to our client’s natural gas pipeline.
L-Charge operatives transport trailers equipped with battery packs and natural gas-powered generators. Customers connect the trailer to a virtual pipeline or their natural gas pipeline. Once secured and fueled, the system powers up immediately, allowing seamless EV charging.
Scalable Solutions
L-Charge tailors its EV charging solutions to match specific customer requirements. Each 180kW charger features two charging guns, delivering either simultaneous 90kW or ultra-fast 180kW charging.
These chargers generate 4.32MW of power daily, meeting high EV charging demands. Customers can scale operations by adding more trailers, ensuring flexibility and growth. When customers establish permanent grid connections, they can relocate or remove the trailers to accommodate evolving needs.
Emission Reduction and Environmental Benefits
L-Charge said it bridges the gap to future green energy sources by using clean fuels.
“L-Charge’s clean-fuel-based technology serves as a bridge to future green energy sources,” continued Lashin. “It also offers crucial environmental advantages that help operators meet emission targets sooner than grid-based models.”
Compared to gasoline and diesel vehicles, L-Charge’s natural gas solution reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 34% to 43%. It also lowers carbon monoxide emissions by 90% and nitrogen oxides by approximately 60%.
Eliminating Upfront Costs with Sustainable Off-Grid EV Charging
Alto leverages L-Charge’s CaaS model to avoid the high costs and delays of traditional grid-based EV infrastructure. This approach enables Alto to deploy charging stations within weeks, allowing rapid fleet expansion.
By eliminating upfront hardware and installation expenses, Alto enjoys predictable costs while scaling its operations efficiently. L-Charge’s off-grid solution supports Alto’s commitment to service quality and operational efficiency.
Expanding Sustainable Off-Grid EV Charging to Los Angeles
Following its success in Dallas, Alto extended L-Charge’s technology to Los Angeles. This move supports fleet expansion in a key urban market and reinforces Alto’s position as a leader in sustainable urban mobility.
L-Charge’s 180kW off-grid charging stations, powered by natural gas, eliminate utility upgrade requirements. This rapid deployment ensures reliable charging infrastructure and allows Alto to expand its fleet efficiently.
Financial Flexibility Fuels Fleet Expansion
L-Charge’s CaaS model frees Alto from substantial capital expenditures, enabling the company to focus on fleet growth. This financial flexibility enhances customer experiences and aligns with Alto’s growth strategy.
“We are excited to support Alto’s vision of a fully electric, luxury ride-sharing service,” Lashin said. “Our off-grid solutions are designed to meet the unique challenges of scaling EV infrastructure quickly and sustainably, making us a perfect partner for Alto’s ambitious growth plans.”
“L-Charge’s solution has been a game-changer for us financially,” said Will Coleman, CEO of Alto. “By eliminating upfront costs, we’ve redirected funds to rapidly expand our fleet and meet growing demand.”
