Rock Tech Lithium has partnered with GEA Group AG, a major system supplier for advanced process technology, to equip its lithium converter project in Guben, Germany. Under the agreement, GEA will provide crystallization and zero-liquid discharge technology to produce battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM).
Finalizing Equipment for the Lithium Converter Project
After a two-and-a-half-year selection process and negotiations, Rock Tech completed test works with GEA to acquire crystallizers. These systems will enable the lithium converter project to deliver 24,000 tons of battery-grade LHM annually.
“Finalizing the commercial and technical contract conditions is a key milestone, ensuring clarity, minimizing risks, and enabling efficient execution. We are pleased to have reached this milestone with such a reputable partner as GEA, establishing a strong foundation for successful collaboration,” said Frank Spellier, Rock Tech’s Head of Engineering.
GEA Brings Global Expertise to Rock Tech’s Converter Plans
The partnership lets Rock Tech draw on GEA’s process knowledge, market expertise, and technical capabilities. GEA has delivered lithium crystallization projects globally, including a 25,000-ton-per-year lithium hydroxide plant in Argentina. The company has also provided technology for two process plants in South Korea, a European facility producing 20,000 tons annually, and an Australian lithium plant.
In North America, GEA has supplied several lithium hydroxide production lines, emphasizing solid-liquid separation technology.
Preparing the Guben Plant for Production
Rock Tech and GEA have finalized contract terms, including scope, services, warranties, and timelines. The companies will sign the formal contract after Rock Tech reaches its Final Investment Decision (FID).
As preparations progress, Rock Tech will integrate GEA’s automation solutions into the lithium converter project at the Guben site.
