While other automakers welcome global policy shifts as a chance to back off their electric vehicle investments, Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group is on a roll lately—and doesn’t seem intent on losing momentum. And in two weeks’ time, we’ll see more all-electric offerings from Kia, including of the more affordable sort.
Kia’s EV Day event will be held on Feb. 27 at the Tarraco Arena in Tarragona, Spain. Following a similar event in Korea held about 18 months ago, the automaker announced this week that it keep the party going with three new electric models: the Kia EV2 Concept and the production versions of the EV4 sedan and the PV5 van.Â

Of those, arguably the EV2 Concept is the one likely to garner the most attention. The concept previews what will be Kia’s smallest and most affordable EV yet, and one that’s meant to appeal to European city car drivers. It’s due to compete against the likes of the Citroën C3, Fiat Grande Panda, Dacia Spring and Hyundai Inster. Unlike the Inster, however, the EV2 is believed to use Hyundai’s E-GMP platform like the EV6, Ioniq 5 and others. Â
The EV2 is believed to go into production at Kia’s Slovakia plant late this year with a goal of ramping it up to 100,000 units annually in 2026. A U.S. debut is unlikely, however.

But the Kia EV4 sedan is expected to join its close sibling, the Kia EV3, for an eventual U.S.-market debut. The EV4 Concept was revealed in Korea in late 2023 and the production version is expected to follow its design closely. If it really is that similar to the EV3, it should offer front- or all-wheel drive and the choice of a 58.3 kWh battery pack 81.4 kWh pack. A hatchback version is also expected to join the sedan variant.Â

Finally, there’s the production version of the PV5, which will represent Kia’s first foray into the burgeoning electric commercial delivery vehicle space. “In addition, the company will also display its game-changing PBV platform,” Kia officials said in a statement. “This dedicated battery electric skateboard architecture underpins the brand’s new PBV business by enabling the flexible combination of various types of vehicle bodies.”
All of these should be interesting entries into the global EV field, and proof that at least some automakers are finally moving beyond the “expensive luxury spaceship” phase to making more affordable, mainstream models that suit a variety of needs.Â
